    twittering via texting

i just realized that some of my twitters haven't appeared on my twitter page.

why? because i accidentally sent them to friends of mine instead of to twitter. ummm... whoops!

so if you've received a completely random text from me, during the day or in the middle of the night, my apologies.

    are you a twitterer?

so for those of you who don't know, there are several of us at nvmc who twitter. twittering is "a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: what are you doing?"

there are lots of nvmc'ers who twitter: free, nataliesp, carrienoedavis, tvuick, davidboggs, tammyharris, krystelk, neildavis, christelboggs, joealv, djsrock1, kelleyann, angiegirl, rebekah1984, manderella, lindanoe, and missysmith. (hope i didn't miss anyone there.)

what i like about it is that usually around 9 or 10 each evening, everybody starts twittering as if it were an exclusive nvmc chatting service. the other night there were so many updates (about 50 i think) within a short amount of time (a minute or two) that somebody wrote: "you guys type faster than i can read". it was hi.lar.i.ous.

here are a few favorite twitters from nvmc'ers who shall remain nameless:

"Heyyy people what's crak a lackin'? I got new hair, lol. I feel soooo good. Don't cha just love a good weave???"
"I think I'm getting stretch marks"
"Just saw a man riding a hover-round out of the Dollar General Market PL with his feet resting on a case of beer. Only in Bullit County.. "
"I bought me some smart water, i hope it makes me smart"

if you're not twittering, go sign up and join the community.

    and follow me.

    the sun came out today

so i trusted Him and faced my fears.

the doctor and i played phone tag and it got on my ever-loving nerves. long story short: what was there is not there anymore.

i had a little sho-mo-la-shondai episode in the office, made a few phone calls and sent a few text messages. i then ate a celebratory box of tagalongs.

thank You, Jesus, for healing and girl scout cookies.

    hey baby, i'm a gladiator

gladiator: a prize fighter; the one left standing at the end of the fight.

i received some news a few days ago that leads me to believe that i'll have to be a gladiator in an arena in which i do not want to fight. to be honest, it totally scares the bejesus out of me.

the spiritual side of me knows that God will not put more on me than i can handle. it knows that all things work together for good for those who are called according to His purpose. it knows that by His stripes i am healed. it knows that the truth overcomes the facts.

but then my humanness kicks in and does a work on my mind. i know that i have to be prepared for the fight. but preparing for the fight means that i have to acknowledge the fight. and to be honest, i really don't want to acknowledge it at all. it's scary.

    but it's necessary.

so i will trust Him and face my fears. i will prepare and be a gladiator. i will be the one left standing at the end of the fight.

    then trust God

i (try to) read a chapter of proverbs every day. it's the book of wisdom and lawd knows i need some of that.

the last verse is appropriate, scary and comforting all wrapped up into one meaty chunk of goodness.

    do your best
    prepare for the worst -
then trust God to bring victory

    me: noe.

pizza guy: can i please have your last name?

    me: noe.

pizza guy: sir, i can't take your order unless you give me your last name.

    me: noe. it's spelled n. o. e.

pizza guy: that's your last name?

    me: yes.

    pizza guy: oh.

    this vision-message is a witness
    pointing to what's coming
it aches for the coming - it can hardly wait
    and it doesn't lie
if it seems slow in coming, wait
    it's on it's way
it will come right on time

    here's half the vision

my sister sang for about 6,000 or 7,000 friends and neighbors tonight. she did a great job as usual.

and during the service the cell phone of the lady sitting next to me started ringing. and it wasn't on vibrate. her ringtone was how great is our God. i couldn't help but laugh. a lot.

    friend or foe?

what would you do if this all-american muslim family walked into your church one sunday morning?

would you be scared? would you be friendly? would you shake their hands?

please provide feedback on this. it's for an article i'm writing and i'd really like your honest responses. feel free to leave the feedback anonymously if you want.

there's more meat in this 1 minute video than in a lot of sermons i've heard over the years.

    good stuff.

    random thoughts v11

i have two articles to write, but i haven't written them yet. i'm procrastinating because... well, because i'm phlegmatic and that's what we do. and my deadline is tonight at midnight. ugh.
    _____

church was PACKED OUT today! people everywhere! there were even some regular attenders that came and sat upstairs near the media room to open seats for visitors.
    _____

today was the start of the "gladiators" sermon series. if you weren't there today, then you missed seeing a picture of pastor since he's been going to the gym. it was pretty interesting. when my younger nephew saw the picture he blurted out "pastor david has big boobies!"
    _____

nelly furtado is on tv right now. every time i see her i think of when i went skydiving in pietermaritzburg, south africa. why? because as the parachute opened we started singing "i'm like a bird, i wanna fly away..."
    _____

my new favorite song: international harvester by craig morgan. if you haven't heard it, then you need to stop what you're doing, go to iTunes and listen. it's gggrrrrrreat. (and no, it's not a christian song about the harvest of lost souls around the world. it's a country song about a tractor.)
    _____

a group of bloggers is on a plane right now on their way to uganda. follow their blogs over the next 9 days or so. links are on the left. ragamuffin soul and flowerdust. you can thank me later.

    god of this city

i downloaded this song off iTunes today. i do believe it was written for the city of louisville.

you're the god of this city
you're the king of this people
you're the lord of this nation
    you are
you're the light in this darkness
you're the hope to the hopeless
you're the peace to the restless
    you are

there is no one like our god
there is no one like our god

greater things have yet to come
greater things are still to be done
    in this city
