i'm embarking on a little adventure in the next few days and the waring juice extractor WE900SA will help get me there. i just bought it this afternoon so i decided to try it out. this is what i had:
detox express - 1/2 peeled lemon - 1 cucumber - 1 medium apple - 1 2-inch piece of ginger - 2 medium carrots
it actually wasn't that bad, but i'll scale down the ginger from 2-inches to 1-inch next time.

a christmas miracle
it's not even 5pm on the 23rd of december - a full two days before christmas - and i've purchased (almost) all of my gifts. there's one left to buy, but it's a book that won't be published until january 2007. so i have no choice but to wait.

seriously
so i'm going to a christmas party tonight where we have to bring a gift for $25. when i bought mine this afternoon (because i'm a chronic procrastinator), the guy who rang up my purchase asked me if i'd like to purchase a warranty on my item. i had to pause a moment and replay his statement in my head: he just asked me to purchase a warranty on an item that costs $25. is he kidding me or has capitolism fallen to an all-time low?
i declined the warranty.

so my nephew led a kid at his school in the sinners prayer today. he's ten years old. pretty cool.

queen of crackers
i struggled this morning during praise and worship. not because the music wasn't great, because it was. not because media shout wasn't on, because it was. not because the songs were hokey, because they weren't. i strugged because the woman sitting in front of me was the whitest woman i believe i've ever seen in my entire life.
we're pretty demonstrative in our praise and worship. we clap. we raise our hands. we jump. we dance. but you should at least have some amount of soul in you before you attempt these things. the woman in front of me wouldn't have known soul if it came up and slapped her across the face. for real.
while we were singing, "magnify Jesus", she was doing this... ummm... i don't quite know how to describe it. she was sort of bending her knees up and down very quickly but never moving her feet from their firmly planted position, all the while swaying back and forth but not to any particular recognizable beat.
we have this saying at our church: "we're a church for people like you." well, that includes this woman. she thoroughly enjoyed herself this morning and i'm pretty sure she'll bring her white self back soon.
and i hope she comes back. she made me chuckle.

one of my cool cat friends, jenn, sent me a christmas card and a book. luckily, i haven't read the book she sent me, so i'm stoked.
the only thing that could make today any better is WHEN kentucky will beat the university of louisville today in men's basketball. oh yeah.

bang bang
so yeah. the house two doors from us was broken into this afternoon. yeah, this afternoon. the middle of the day. between 11am - 4:30pm. the middle of the day. all the doors of the house were open when they came home. the thieves went through the man's gun collection, through the woman's jewelry collection, unwrapped all of the christmas presents. they even went through the attic.
i have a 38 in my nightstand by my bed. maybe for christmas i'll buy myself a new gun and some shooting range visits.

wondering what to buy someone for christmas this year? check out heifer international.
you can purchase a heifer for an impoverished family in someone else's name. the family can sell the milk and dairy products at a local market. better yet, the family can drink the milk and eat the dairy products the heifer produces.
if that's too expensive, you can buy a colony of honey bees so they can sell the honey and wax at local markets. the bees will also crosspolinate the fruits and vegetables in the area which will help not only the family, but the entire local area.

random thoughts v7
today was the last day of the impacting conference. the music was great. the speakers were great. the crowd - not so great. but i got to thinking about it earlier today. the name of the conference was "impacting the heart of the city". the heart is only one part of the body. a small but vital part to the rest of the body. i believe that the people who attended the conference were the "heart" of the body and that our city has been and will continue to be impacted. _____
my niece is three years old and has a husband. his name is kookus. they have a daughter, emily. she's been telling us that kookus has been in mobile working. she told us tonight that he was upstairs asleep because he was sick. she also said that she's going to give all of her baby dolls to the kids who don't have any christmas presents. _____
i really need to do laundry. but i hate it. in college, i'd go to a thrift store down the road in ooltewah and buy clothes sometimes just so i wouldn't have to do laundry. that's sad. _____
my sister is in university full-time and has a final next week, but she's decided she's not going to read the final materials. she said "i'm going to trust God". i laughed in her face. _____
my nephew auditioned yesterday with MGM studios. the director told him that as far as he was concerned he was getting a call back. (there were too many pronouns in that last sentence. sorry.) _____
