growing up, my parents always "encouraged" my sister and i to go talk to people in the church. not just the kids our age, but everybody. i hated it. my parents were the pastors and it was rude if we didn't talk to everybody. i think they knew they had a problem when i was about 5. i walked up to a lady in our church, kicked her in the leg and yelled "YOU'RE FAT!". as a side note, she really was fat. real fat.
i don't feel comfortable a lot of times talking to people that i don't know really, really well. i'm not the best at social situations.
but oh well. being phlegmatic isn't something i can change.
the past several mornings i've woken up at 5:44 exactly. my alarm doesn't go off until 7. how annoying is that?

woo hoo
so i've been praying and fasting for a particular thing for about 3 months now. on thursday night, i decided that i would end a fast. i got tired of praying for this thing and decided that like daniel, God had already heard my prayer and had sent the answer. so i decided to eat a celebratory meal.
friday morning my answer came.
dude. God is cool beans.

19 years ago today
my crazy family likes to commemorate anniversaries. even bad ones. today is a bad one. my aunt calls me every 13 june to tell me not to play in the street. for 19 years i've gotten the same speech.
i was hit by a ford bronco when i was a kid. yup - tire tracks across my stomach and all. i had a lot of injuries. my left leg was torn off. my right leg was broken in three places. my left arm was broken. skin ripped off of the right side of my face. you could see an egg-shaped portion of my skull just above my right eye. kidney, spleen and liver damage. internal bleeding. blood squirting out of my eyes, nose, ears and mouth with every heartbeat. my big toe on my right foot was also broken. can't forget about the big toe. the paramedics put me (and my left leg) in the ambulance and off to the hospital we went. several days, blood transfusions and surgeries later, i woke up with my left leg reattached. amazing what doctors and God can do eh?
i've written about it before, but thought it appropriate to write about it once more.

the africanization of africa
chippla writes:
"Rather than complaining about cultural invasion, societies need to think about how to reinvent themselves as the times change. There will always be dominant and not-so-dominant cultures. Not even government legislation can prevent dominant cultures from being ever present. Under different guises, dominant cultures have a way of spreading their tentacles across the globe for the simple reason that they appeal to people."
